Twig Shutters

Make a statement with southwestern twig shutters by Casa Cornice.  These shutters are made with salt cedar or tamarisk tree branches (twigs) grown along the bosque of the Rio Grande River.  Their beautiful red color against the golden pine frame definitely emulates parts of the New Mexico landscape.

There are several advantages to using pine:

1. Cost. It is cheaper than other soft woods
2. It is a soft wood and easier to work with.
3. If you condition it first, you can stain it to match just about anything you want.
4. Strength to weight ratio is very high.
5.Abundancy. You can get it anywhere woods are sold.
6. It can be used for outdoor furniture if you seal it when done working on it.
7. It doesnt have harmful preservatives like pressure treated woods have.

Be as creative as you like with design – the twigs can rest horizontal, vertical or diagonal in a pine frame.  Add matching cornice boxes with the twig inserts placed in cut-out areas.  You can even match your korbels or add a sunburst.  Don’t rule out adding drapery panels – they add drama and depth to your space when placed on a rod underneath the cornice box.

Outside or inside doesn’t matter, this shutter treatment truly adds a touch of nature to your decor.
